The four main meat commodities are: live cattle, feeder cattle, lean hogs, and pork bellies. The meat commodity market tends to be seasonal. Meat prices usually go up during the winter months. This is because transportation in more difficult due to weather conditions, and because meat producers tend to hold on to their livestock after harvest to fatten them up on cheaper grain.
